About Rita

From the windswept and rugged coastlines of Western Scotland to the gentle rolling landscapes of the Cotswolds, Rita has captured them all through her oil paintings.
Painting in the much loved and much sought after traditional British style with a palette knife and brush, Rita paints from real life scenes. Scenes encountered on her travels predominantly within the British Isles. However, being a true artist, her mind is always capturing moments to paint and share. She never switches off and when travelling overseas Rita often paints at the destinations she visits.
As well as spending time travelling for her art, Rita has her own Studio here in the Cotswolds where she puts the final touches to her paintings. This is also where they start their journey to their new owners. Carefully wrapped and dispatched at the start of their journey to their new homes across the British Isles and further afield.

Rita’s Approach to Her Work
The sky is the starting point for all of Rita’s paintings. Her curiosity for the ever-changing world in our skies, the vast variety of clouds, and the exquisite light creates the foundations for every landscape and seascape she paints.
The preliminary sketches are key to the structure of Rita’s paintings; however, they are also stepping stones for her imagination. You never quite know where they will lead her!
Using nature as the final piece in her artistry puzzle, the mediums of oil paint on canvas enables Rita to capture rare moments in time of movement in her landscapes and seascapes.

A Life in Art and Design
Rita began her life in art and design when she studied at The International Fashion School in Paris before returning to the UK to complete her studies at the world-renowned St Martins College of Art in London with a Degree in fine Arts. A career in fashion as the design director for a major British fashion retailer followed with Rita becoming a consultant in the design world for global fashion lines.

One of Rita’s favourite pastimes is to visit museums and galleries when she’s on her travels. Some of her most cherished visits were to the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art and the Frick gallery in New York, the Rijks Museum in Amsterdam and of course the iconic Tate Gallery and Royal Academy in London.
She was also the Programme Secretary for her home branch of The Art Society. This is an international society covering UK, Europe and Australia. Being the Programme Secretary gave Rita the opportunity to select lecturers including many of the well-known and well-loved presenters of the Antiques Road Show.
